My Cultural History

 

In the novel, sacred places were explored when Sadie discovers markings on the circle of stones at Crow’s Place. This enabled us to think about the cultural identity and history of Walter and the past generations of his family. This was interesting to me because I was able to discover the cultural values of my family members.  My mother told me about her escape with her siblings and her parents out of war torn Vietnam as they ventured out on a boat to find a safe place to restart their lives. After hearing about her experiences, I felt inspired by the courageous action that my grandparents took to find safety for their children.  This story made me have a lot of respect for my grandparents and my mother.
